The first ever skate event at the famous Darling Harbour Snake Gardens followed on from the Dew Battle on 12 December 2009 in the iconic Federation Square in Melbourne, taken out by Sydney resident and the lone representative of NZ, Bjorn Johnstone. With a completely different set up to the knarly stairs of Melbourne, Snake Gardens offered a true street battle.
The Dew Battle is an invitational skate comp with 20 of Australia’s top skateboarders competing for $40k in prize money. The two events determine the overall Dew Battle national championship title.
The Mt Dew Battle was created by Renton Millar, the 2009 World Cup of Skateboarding Vert Champion. In its second year, the inaugural event was held in February 2009 at Sydney’s Monster Skatepark.
Battle is a part of Tango’s Mt Dew Activation strategic implementation work for the brand.
